Blueberry and Cinnamon Smoothie

Morning smoothies can wreak havoc on blood sugar, which is not ideal for the first meal of the day. Berries are lower in glycemic index, so they give fruitiness to the smoothie w/out too much sweetness. The fat in the coconut milk will also help balance blood sugar, and the protein powder (ideally at least 20 g per scoop) gives a good dose of protein to start the day.

This isn’t quite the optimal 30 g of protein per meal that most midlife women need, which means you’ll need to have big portions of protein with lunch and dinner to get to 90g or more by evening.

1/2 cup blueberries

8 fl ounces Unsweetened Almond milk (or other nut milk of choice. I also like Milkadamia)

1 scoop of your favorite protein powder

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2 Fl oz of full fat coconut milk (optional)

  1. Place all ingredients into the blender and blend until combined.

  2. Taste and add a tiny bit of sweetener if desired. (honey or maple syrup)
